CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

FNN Television
FNN TV student news teams go on location, report on current issues and produce their own news features in the studio while learning how to produce, direct, write a good script, use the camera, and be an on-air personality. No experience necessary but students must commit to participating in every class. Classes for credit meet everyday at Woodson Collegiate Academy. Afterschool classes meet once a week at Woodson Collegiate Academy.

Documentary TV Advisor Mike Spikes is the former producer of WAMU's Youth Voices and also runs the Roosevelt High School Television Program.

FNN Radio
FNN Radio students learn while producing Teen2Teen, FNN's one-hour monthly talk show on WOL 1450 AM Radio. Student news teams go out on location and report on current issues while learning how to produce, direct, write a good script, record in the studio, be an on-air personality, and for final broadcast. Students will have the opportunity work at a radio station once a month as part of the class. No experience necessary but students must commit to participating in every class. Selected students may apply for WAMU's Youth Voices. Classes for credit meet everyday at Woodson Collegiate Academy. Afterschool classes meet once a week at Woodson Collegiate Academy.

Radio Advisor Michael Spikes is the former producer of WAMU's award-winning program, Youth Voices.

Rated-T Magazine
Join Rated-T Magazine, FNN's feature news magazine and learn while producing your own magazine which is printed and distributed twice a year. Students will learn writing, reporting, editing, photography, and all aspects of magazine production. The best student work may be posted on washingtonpost.com and NewsHour Extra. No experience necessary but students must commit to participating in every class. Classes for credit meet everyday at Woodson Collegiate Academy. Afterschool classes meet once a week at Woodson Collegiate Academy.

Magazine Advisor Marilyn Kaufman is director of Friendship News Network and has many years of experience developing publications for museums, associations, corporations schools and national magazine groups.

Graphic Design
As part of Rated-T Magazine, students will join the popular graphic design class and learn while designing and producing the magazine. Students will learn how to use industry-standard software Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

Graphic Design Advisor Brian Young is a professional graphic designer and art director with years of experience working with museums, associations and magazines.

FriendshipNewsNetwork.com
Students from Rated-T Magazine, FNN Radio and FNN TV contribute to friendshipnewsnetwork.com. Staff members will learn all aspects of web design and production, including polling, podcasting and uploading FNN radio and television stories while using industry standard software. High school students will work to produce FNN's webpage. This summer all web students will visit washingtonpost.com. Classes for credit meet everyday at Woodson Collegiate Academy. Afterschool classes meet once a week at Woodson Collegiate Academy.
